Christina Lee Managing Director, U.S. Private Debt Strategy, Oaktree Capi… Bloomberg Markets
Private credit benefits from M&A backlog.
Private credit should benefit from a backlog of M&A and private-equity exits in 2026. Private-equity firms have held investments too long and need to return capital to LPs, while aging dry powder must be deployed. Falling rates make debt capital cheaper and higher public valuations support higher purchase multiples and deal flow. More deal supply should reduce the recent supply-demand imbalance in private credit that had increased competition, compressed spreads, and raised leverage. The new Oaktree Direct Lending Evergreen Fund, which completed a $2.35 billion first close, is an implementation vehicle as LPs seek evergreen income and diversification.
